Hummingbirdcoffee shop
Grunge meets grind.
A rebellious little coffee shop in the heart of ATX where guitars and espresso collide. This brand was built for the misfits, the music lovers, the early risers, and the late-night thinkers. Bold visuals. Gritty textures. Smooth caffeine. Welcome to Hummingbird Coffee Shop ATX. Every cup hits like a power chord.

Discovery
My moodboard captures a grungy, music-inspired vibe with bold, expressive energy. It blends vintage punk, record store culture, and late-night coffeehouse aesthetics — perfect for a creative, community-driven brand. The type and colors are intentionally raw, warm, and a little rebellious. It’s rock & roll meets espresso, right in the heart of Austin.

These early sketches explore movement, attitude, and personality through the shape of the hummingbird. I played with different poses, wingspans, and the identity of the bird in flight. Some are playful, others bold — I was really inspired by the body of the hummingbird. This phase was all about freedom and flow before refining into a final concept.

Digital draft
In my digital logo drafts, I found myself drawn to the shape of the hummingbird’s body — something about it kept pulling me back. As I explored different forms and compositions, a new visual connection started to take shape. It was unexpected, but felt completely natural. That moment sparked the foundation for what would become Hummingbird Coffee Shop.

Final Concept
Now let’s bring in how the electric guitar started to influence the design. After many iterations, I noticed the curve of the hummingbird’s body lined up almost perfectly with that of a classic electric guitar. That realization shifted everything — I removed the tail, added the guitar neck, and it just clicked. From there, I focused on finding a typeface that matched the brand’s edge, added “ATX” to give the brand a home. I refined the shapes, and gave the wing a dynamic feel, I offset the wing path and removed the eye.

Reflection
With this design, it was more than just creating a logo — it was about building a brand that feels alive, honest, and rooted in culture. Hummingbird Coffee Shop blends music, motion, and caffeine into a visual identity that’s bold but grounded, edgy but welcoming. Throughout the process, I challenged myself to dig deeper into symbolism, shape, and storytelling — and I’m proud of where it landed. This brand feels like a place you’ve always known, but with a vibe you’ve never seen before.
